A Fine and Rare George II Brass-Mounted Florentine Pietre Dure and Pietra Alabarese Panel-Mounted Mahogany and Walnut Collector’s Cabinet in two parts, the upper section with dentil-molded cornice above a blind-fretwork frieze and a pair of diamond-mullioned glazed doors opening to an inset early 18 th century walnut case fitted with a marble-veneered feather-banded and figured walnut drawer mounted with a pierced brass handle beneath a secret panel sliding to reveal three secret drawers, all over drawers mounted with brass-edged pietre dure and pietra albarese panels depicting landscapes, a camel, a dog, an elk, a lion, a boar, an elephant, a bear, a leopard, and an ox, centered by a panel depicting a dog and a butterfly within a burr and crossbanded walnut arch over a hinged door mounted with a panel depicting a leopard being attacked by a bear in a landscape, flanked by mahogany half-round engaged fluted pilasters with brass capitals and bases and facing spring-loaded secret document drawers, the cupboard door opening to shelves, small marble-veneered figured walnut drawers and valenced pigeonholes, all over a central sliding shelf, the lower section fitted with three graduated flame-veneered graduated cockbeaded drawers, raised on husk-carved hairy paw feet.
