Vista is huge. Long, unobstructed views prolong life.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">2. Global warming will harm trees especially in July and August now. It is a good time to irrigate with 10 gallon water bags around trees 3 times a week. Irrigation systems are expensive but probably worth it IF you think the bags are ugly. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">3. A great deal of your land may have a lot of water draining into it from February until early June. So keeping that water out of your basement is critical for your health especially if you are prone to colds or the flu. It you are not, then it is not quite as urgent. But nasty viruses, fungus and bacteria grow rapidly in mold. You can put two feet of moisture absorbing wood chips next to the house where the water comes in to retard the process. But in the end, water is the enemy. Gutters should be cleaned out 3 times a year and downspouts should empty out at least 10 feet from the house. It is easy to tell. If your basement smells moldy, then you have an issue that should be addressed.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">4. Trees do better if they are not competing with grass for nutrients (nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus) that drain THROUGH the root system. So one inch of wood chips from the trunk out to the drip line and 4 inches from the drip line 2 feet further out. Trees do not like sitting in dampness. Doing this will help.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">5. Truncated branches are ugly and depressing. They should be removed cut flush to the trunk. For me seeing the strength of the leaders is upliftng.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Then the wonderful oak 30 feet in from the entrance should be thinned out. That is your best tree. Again 30 minutes tops! Nothing major I promise.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">6. Cut the vines at their base in the park. No one can possibly complain about killing nasty climbing vines.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">7. Think about 3 good sized Japanese cutleaf maples planted at the entrance a year or two from now. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">8. Topped trees are sad. They remind me of soldiers with amputated limbs in a VA hospital. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">9. No tree will ever blow over if it is thinned out JUST A BIT every two years. You want the wind to blow through the tree, not against the tree.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">10. Lift the branches of the pine smothering your outstanding Euonymus in your driveway surround. Let it breathe and be SEEN for the two glorious weeks in the Fall when it goes scarlett. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Most of this is an insensitive alpha male braying but I have created over 25 arboreta over the last 50 years.</div>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-71525858488212408872024-03-07T03:58:00.003-05:002024-03-07T03:58:56.276-05:00Why I love Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania - the place of my childhood until I was 44. A letter to a distinguished Township Supervisor. <p> <span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Carole</span></p><div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">What kind words! Thank you.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">You and Tina are welcome back anytime convenient for you. Her steady commitment is well remembered. Just give me two days' notice. I am keen that my fellow residents of Upper Merion Township have the use of this house especially with the 250th anniversary of George Washington's time here starting in December 1777. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">I have done everything possible to interest the Upper Merion Township High School to be involved but have failed so far. Interestingly the head of the history department at LOWER Merion High School, Chad Hennenberry, IS involved and uses the house to teach his advanced placement students. We have had over 40 of his students here and 4 of them were Summer Interns here for 6 weeks. He is copied. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">With our shared passion for France in the 16th to 19th centuries, it would mean a great deal to me to show you some of the masterpieces in the house. Certainly for French natural history illustration, it is the finest corpus in the Western Hemisphere.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">It would certainly give me pleasure to host a lunch or dinner for any of the supervisors and administrators in my beloved township. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Joe Pirro is copied on this email back to you. He is the writer for Philadelphia Magazine and will have a better idea of the answers to your questions about the publication of the story. Certainly it is true that the considerable skill AND INTEGRITY of your supervisors and Mark Zadroga are the reasons that I have invested over $20,000,000 in property, tree planting (over 3000) and restoration of 4 homes (3 of which are 18th century) in Upper Merion Township. Perhaps my most recent fondest visual contribution is the preservation of the magnificent Sycamore at 618 Shoemaker. It is the largest specimen in Pennsylvania. Over $10,000 has been spent doing everything possible to keep it around for another 250 years. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Joe Pirro is encouraged to contact you. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">ALL a successful man over the age of 73 should be doing is giving back. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do so.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Fondly</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Graham</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Arader Galleries, 1000 Boxwood Court, King of Prussia, PA, 19406</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Joe</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Carole Kenney was a distinguished professor of French at Villanova University and now devotes her time to the accretive administration of Upper Merion Township. Lori and I would love to visit your collection anytime convenient for you.</span></p><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">The Croy / Montigny watercolors on vellum that you saw can be sold individually for $50,000 each. Professor J W Smit, the Queen Wilhelmina Professor of History at Columbia University, made two special trips to Europe for me. He was unable to find anything remotely close to the size and beauty of these compelling records of the Croy family holdings. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">We do have other examples from this corpus that we would be delighted to show you and would extend a 20% discount from our listed prices. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">But it is my feeling that you will discover that the top two that you saw today are excellent value. Hope you decide to add them to your home. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">It was moving that you brought back memories of how much my relationship with Mr. Sulzberger meant to me. What a fine leader brimming with humanity he was. In an extraordinary coincidence, I happened to be having dinner at Parioli Romanissimo on 81st Street on the very evening that Mr. Sulzberger passed the role of Publisher on to his son at the table next to me! So I was the first to meet young Arthur in his new position. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Lori and I hope to see you again when convenient for you. She remembers you with fondness.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Truly</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Graham</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Arader Galleries, 1016 Madison Avenue, NYC</div>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-33629347590389493012024-02-18T09:53:00.000-05:002024-02-18T09:53:38.636-05:00I was asked what would make Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania better by one of the Superviors - Greg Wachs. <p> <span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Simple answer to your great question Greg.</span></p><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Teach ALL employees to treat the residents of Upper Merion Township with the comportment of Mark Zadroga. Make his approach the template for a published employee handbook. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Graft, bribes, officiousness, imperiousness, laziness are easy for someone working in Upper Merion Township when they see fellow citizens in the private sector making two to three or even four times more for easier work. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Alexander Hamilton saw this 250 years ago and left a LITTLE room for misbehavior in government in his Federalist Papers. But just a LITTLE and NOT a lot. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Mark is straight and comes up with creative solutions to contentious issues. His is the approach that drives investment from capable managers. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">This is NOT my feeling alone.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">In the last 20 years, I have heard this from others in the real estate sector over 100 times. It is WELL known in the Delaware Valley that Upper Merion Township has someone that is professional and straight that wants the best for his township and investors. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Being abused by a bad employee of Upper Merion Township is exhausting at best. Your board has something precious in Mark that should be cared for. Celebrating the right way to act is far better than rules that punish unprincipled performance. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Graham</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Arader Galleries, 1000 Boxwood Court, King of Prussia, PA, 19406</div>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-57804292292270733362024-02-17T08:43:00.002-05:002024-02-17T08:43:26.605-05:00How I succeeded mostly by not caring even a little bit about succeeding. <p> <span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Why didn't I ever do business with Glen Horowitz now on trial for handling stolen goods?</span></p><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">After putting 8 people in prison for selling me stolen material and being a member of the FBI informant program for 40 years, anyone with an IQ over 80 knows to avoid me if they are wicked. You deserve it and will live a longer and happier life the less that I am involved. However, it is my feeling that when something occurs that so seriously goes against the firmament of my ancient business model that it stings me, you should be informed. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">This event has actually caused me pain.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">It is a fact that prompt responses generate much higher results. Compulsion drives the majority of sales. The ephemeral inclination to buy old pieces of paper for what it would cost to put a student through his first year of Harvard Medical School is most definitely fleeting as common sense comes to the fore. So after KNOWING this for 55 years, trampling on this is a sharp stick in my eye. </div>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-21361639657030696652024-02-02T04:58:00.003-05:002024-02-02T04:58:33.274-05:00God makes better Roses for Steve Jobs.<p> <span style="background-color: white; color: #242424; font-family: "Segoe UI", "Segoe UI Web (West European)", "Segoe UI", -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: large;">For 10 years Steve Jobs was a client looking to see if a human artist could best the roses growing in his garden in Palo Alto that was contiguous to his home. NO MORE</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #500050; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Write your goals down but NEVER show to anyone. But this is the only time that you can use this bad word. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #500050; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">3. It had been the home of Robert Dechert who in 1948 had sponsored an Arnold Arboretum expedition to China to bring back a tree that had not lived in the Western Hemisphere for 10 million years. It was a dawn redwood or metasequoia. He was given one of the saplings as thanks. It now is the tallest tree in eastern Pennsylvania and has been one of the drivers of my obsessive collecting. </span></p><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Overtaken with a hoarding disorder madness and finding the ultimate source in Watercrest Nurseries in Chester County, PA, over 1000 conifers over 12 feet tall have been installed on this land. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">You will see that his charges are less than 5% of what a standard nurseryman would ask. That and some gifted Ecuadorian heavy machinery operators have enabled me to create 5 arboreta, one substantial, all within 3 miles of each other! </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Basically from 1735 to 1778 Linnaeus had a hard time fitting in cyprus, chamaecyparis, cedar into his Systema Naturae. So it took DNA analysis of the last 10 years to finally get it right. Ned Friedman, head of the Arnold, tells me that his center's study of dendrology is 50 times more accretive than all the other institutions in North America combined! Wow. Rare to find Harvard guys bragging but he was right!!!</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">If you ever find yourself near the Delaware Valley, it would make me happy to give you a tour. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">My great challenge now is irrigation as 30 days in a row of 90 degrees heat will kill this collection off as it did for 10% of my plants last Summer. Global warming is horrible personally for me. We really are in trouble. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" /></div>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-48467662337060839392024-01-01T00:45:00.005-05:002024-01-01T00:45:42.901-05:00Corruption in China and New York City. Thank you Mike Bloomberg!!! Also a reply to the WSJ story about Xi's campaign to root our graft.<p> The greatest period in the history of NYC - the 12 years of Michael Bloomberg as mayor - were certainly greatly enhanced by his focus on reducing coruption with his greatest win the conviction of Sheldon Silver. What a delight for me finally not to be acosted by every NYC employee with a request for cash or harassment of my women employees. Thank you Mike.</p><p></p><p>Of course another New Yorker - Alexander Hamilton - believed that a little bit of correction would keep politians in line to support the government. </p><p></p><p>Xi is right to focus on this. No one on the planet loves money as much as the Chinese. It is why they will never go to war for anything because it will disrupt their world wide cash generating construct. The US is foolish to worry about a confrontation. The Chinese will always back down if their precious bank accounts are at risk. </p>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-20716603506582155482023-12-31T15:18:00.001-05:002023-12-31T15:18:27.979-05:00A horrible experience at the Baha Mar "resort" in the Bahamas.<p> On December 25th, at the Baha Mar resort in the Bahamas my son almost died on a jet ski and was held for ransom to pay for repairs while a 12 inch cut in his leg was bleeding profusely and his liver, lung, heart, ribs and Stomach were badly brused. When my daughter returned with the $500 ranson that was demanded, my injured son was released by 8 aggressive, threatening men. </p><p>When we called the police we were told that they didnt prosecute Bahamians based on American reports and claims and refused to come. We were told that my son was lucky to be alive and they hung up. </p><p>When we arrived back in NYC, we had to spend over $8000 getting cat scans, blood tests and medical diagnosis. He is still at risk and badly injured. </p><p>My wife then had a bowl of Chinese food spilled on her dress, hair, face and glasses</p><p>We were told that our meal would be given to us. Instead we were given a $300 credit against an invoice over $875. The prices for food were outrageous. </p><p>We were unable to get the comp for the gambling we did. It should be over $1500 in credit against our bill for what we gambeled. So far NOTHING. </p><p>None of us were able to sleep in the early morning because of the water jets noise cleaning the grounds</p><p>A Chopard watch that was quoted to me for $78,000 had the price changed to $85,785. I have a text message quoting an acceptance of $78,000. They changed the price on a whim. </p><p>The smell of marijuana in the hallways was disturbing and prevented us from sound sleep</p><p>Pictures in the hotel lobby area of monkees dressed as black men was insulting and abusive. </p><p>The food from the Steak house gave me severe, painful gout.</p><p>Damien Hall at Damien.Hall@slshotels.com promised to resove these issues by December 28th. It is Dec 31 and nothing has been said or offered. </p><p>This hotel almost killed my son and I was ripped off for over $25,000. Stay away if you value the safety of your children and expect reasonable pricing.</p>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-31366216796222524282023-12-02T17:49:00.005-05:002023-12-02T17:49:42.606-05:00Netanyahu's only choice is to do what he is doing now. Here is why:<p> <span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The central theme of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is below. They believe the inflation caused by German Bankers to pay off the WWI reparations gave Hitler his opening to take control of the 99% of Germany that was not Jewish. By eliminating Jews, Hitler took control of the 49% of Germany that Jews owned and distributed it to the rest of the population. So he doubled the net worth of his population that was not Jewish. That was the entire basis of his appeal. </span></p><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Today inflation is raging. Everything that I want to buy has been going up at least 20% per annum for the last 4 years. It is going up more because the Fed is not going to be able to sell bonds at the current rate they are getting away with now. The 10 year will be 9% on the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution on July 4, 2026.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So the same thing that happened in Germany 100 years ago is happening now all over the world. It has been exhausting competing with people who built up their inventory by stealing it. If my competitors' cost of acquisition was zero, there was no way for me to make a sale no matter how much I cut my price. I would almost always lose.</span></p><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So I had to work 18 hours a day 360 days a year for 50 years to find a way to succeed. Giving my clients outstanding service and accuracy was my only way to survive. </div>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-21496054729606831352023-03-23T02:27:00.001-04:002023-03-23T02:27:20.785-04:00The importance of the early Sanson atlases of the 1650's<p> <span style="font-size: large;">THIS is the most important atlas of the 17th century with NEW information appearing on maps for the first time. For me major discoveries depicted for the first time is most of the reason that a map can be called historically important. </span></p><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">All the French expansion in the Western Hemisphere under the leadership of Louis XIV and to a lesser extent Louis XII and Henry IV appears in this atlas. This is especially poignant because Louis XV lost 99% of these American lands with the Treaty of Paris of 1763 at the conclusion of the French and Indian War. Our Sanson atlas is published in 1658/9 16 years after the beginning of Louix XIV reign in 1643. So the Sun King is bracketed by Sanson at the beginning and Delisle at the end. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">The aesthetic bonus is the design motifs are the best in the 17th century without any serious competition. </div>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-90434984057503456832023-03-10T14:51:00.000-05:002023-03-10T14:51:19.033-05:00The real David Swensen<p> <span style="color: #070707; font-family: Retina; font-size: 16px; white-space: pre-wrap;">You all have been played propigating a myth created by David. When I rode with David from his home to the gym to play squash over 50 times for more than 10 years, he would be on the phone trading vast sums - at least over $1 billion in 20 minutes everytime. When I asked him what he was doing, he would laugh and say, "I buy low and sell high." That is how most of the money was made. Yale had one of the world's great natural traders making them over $40,000,000,000.</span></p><p style="color: #070707; font-family: Retina; font-size: 16px; white-space: pre-wrap;"></p><p style="color: #070707; font-family: Retina; font-size: 16px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Alternative investments? He worked with Yale graudates that adored him and gave him special deals. That is over now. </p><p style="color: #070707; font-family: Retina; font-size: 16px; white-space: pre-wrap;"></p><p style="color: #070707; font-family: Retina; font-size: 16px; white-space: pre-wrap;">He was a wonderful man who benefited an institution that he loved. He worked for less than 1% of what he would have made if he had been working for himself.</p><p style="color: #070707; font-family: Retina; font-size: 16px; white-space: pre-wrap;"></p><p style="color: #070707; font-family: Retina; font-size: 16px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Yes, he has been recognized but no where near to the full estent he deserved.</p><p style="color: #070707; font-family: Retina; font-size: 16px; white-space: pre-wrap;"></p><p style="color: #070707; font-family: Retina; font-size: 16px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Graham Arader</p>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-75442005823494573722023-02-01T23:25:00.001-05:002023-02-01T23:25:20.775-05:00My predictions for the next 3 years. <p> <span style="font-size: large;">Weimar, Germany 1923 all over again</span></p><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">rule of law is crashing because Trump and Biden spent 13t to handle COVID and spent 1t a year for weapons.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">the carrot of a regular check every two weeks for harmony at home for those who uphold the law has been compromised by vast inflation.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">only genius managers can maintain the illusion that our mediums of exchange are still valid. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Adani needs a master who has influence w the media and to do the opposite of his instincts</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">glad I am 72 and experienced of 72 year run of stability</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">inflation and spending $ for things that kill people bring turmoil</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">make friends with a good lawyer</div>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-89406377407095378302022-11-27T21:53:00.000-05:002022-11-27T21:53:04.223-05:00My perfect Fuchs!<p>B<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">etween 1880 and 1929, many 15th to 19th century books were colored for collectors.</span></p><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Great wealth was created then and Fuchs were colored to "create" something appealing to new collectors. That is why the estimate can be so low. The auctioineer will strongly telegraphe her feelings with a valuation far lower than a "right" example of this book. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The easiest way to tell color that is 16th century is the oxidation of the copper in the green pigment that slowly burns through the paper (cuprous oxide and then cupric oxide after a valence is lost.) Newer color bleeds through. Examples can be shown to you on your next visit. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">This would possibly be ok were it not for the spotting or splotching caused by the unravelled cellulose fiber that results in a surface that is unequally absorbent when the color is applied. When you understand this it is easy to see because you know what to look for. In the end it just looks terrible because it is "spotty"</div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">That is why it is my feeling that my Fuchs is truly the finest example that exists because the oxidation is perfect. It is what the author and publisher wanted. It is a masterpiece because it is true</div>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-84100714237859885612022-11-23T20:31:00.001-05:002022-11-23T20:31:15.373-05:00What I did on September 11, 2001.<p> B<span style="font-size: large;">ecause I had won his tennis tournament the year before, Warren Buffet sat me next to him at the breakfast before the Buffet Tennis and golf tournament on September 11, 2001. The breakfast was at 7 am at the Strategic Air Command - USSTRATCOM. We were given a tour of the Museum there and then went 6 stories down to the Center for breakfast.</span></p><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">There was a video screen for us all to witness the two jets flying into the World Trade Center. 50 of the fortune 500 CEO's were in the room (tickets to the event cost $7500 that you gave to the Boy's Club so it was fairly exclusive)</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">At our table was the Admiral in charge of the base. When I suggested that the buildings were at risk, he ridiculed me and said that two jets flying into that building was like two gnats flying into a large tree. He said that they were sending in police and firemen because it was 100% safe. Nothing would happen.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Everyone was then escorted out of the building with gun toting Marines because George Bush was on his way there. We all got back on the buses and were taken to the Omaha Country Club. Of course all the swells called up their pilots to be flown home but all air traffic was closed down so we all played some tennis and golf and at lunch Buffet got up to talk "off the record" for 30 minutes</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">What was most amazing about this whole day was the Buffet had already figured out how much he had lost and told us. $1.1b</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Incredible</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Then he said that because American managers were the best in the world, we would easily survive this disaster and that the USA would be better than ever.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">With that, all of these amazing men and women rose to their feet and cheered him frenziedly!</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;">Graham</div><div class="yj6qo"></div><div class="gmail_default adL" style="font-size: large;"><br style="background-color: white; font-family: "BB.Proportional";" /></div>Graham Araderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08725182968958751913noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786050786833863174.post-29088830541808935492022-08-20T18:39:00.003-04:002022-08-20T18:39:28.525-04:00We have a new catalog on Germantown and its publishing history. Would you like one? What follows is what I learned from my research. <p> <span style="color: #500050; font-size: large;">The lesson I have learned in my research during the last 50 years is that ONCE Americans were deeply proud of their German Heritage. They comprised 29% of the USA population - the largest percentage of any nationality.</span></p><blockquote style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;" type="cite"><div dir="ltr"><div class="im" style="color: #500050;"><div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: large;"><div class="gmail_default"><br /></div><div class="gmail_default">There were libraries, museums, societies, organizations, schools, universities devoted to German culture UNTIL Hitler. I have over 1000 books on this subject. </div><div class="gmail_default">But Hitler's and the German population's atrocities killed all pride of German heritage. And the Nuremberg trials illustrated it to the world.
