Passive aggressive behavior at Christies has finally driven me to complain after 40 years of abuse.
Christiana
Please lodge my complaint to your superiors regarding your treatment of me during your book sale on June 26th where only 2 of your top 11 lots sold.
I have respectfully asked you to help me with unsold lots and you have not responded.
Your severe lack of any interest in working with me is especially annoying as I have spent over $200,000,000 with Christies during the last 50 years.
Your abuse has killed my willingness to respond to the inquiries of some of my 37,000 plus clients who spend $40,000,000 a year with me to represent them at your sales. Now I dont even go to your exhibitions. We are the largest booksellers in the world with a stock valued at over $1 billion and you have never once visited our location even though you are less than 30 blocks away.
If you are acting this way because Meg Ford is directing you to, then I forgive you and will make my very strong feelings known to her and her executives.
Collaboration works Christina. Your abuse is ruining that opportunity. My complaints about Stephen Massey and Tom Lamb resulted in their separation from Christies many years ago. Massey was imperious and Lamb was a thief. All you are doing is passive aggressive by not responding. So it is not nearly as painful but the opportunity for the support of this genre is being damaged by your actions.
It is time for your book team to decide your course regarding your relationship with me.
John Donne says it well:
No Man Is an Island
No man is an island,
Entire of itself;
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less,
As well as if a promontory were:
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were.
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.
Truly
