The only strong results thus far in February for the Art Market. WHY?

The big question for the month of February is WHY did Aso Tavatian's furniture at Sothebys sell for over 15 times the price of other basic brown furniture in the last year.  And this is with the negative story about Sothebys in the WSJ and  their firing of very talented people during the last two months.

So there is no way it could be Sothebys reputation because of that negative story which was undeserved and without any basis.

My feeling is that the reason is that there are over 100 people who give at least 400k a year to the MET.  In return all their art purchases are vetted by MET experts making the MET the #1 art dealers in the world.

Just enough people knew about Tavatian's connection to this service that created intense bidding.  It could have been  less than 10 people but that is enough to generate massive results.

Do you have another explanation for this event when virtually all other auction sales and results during the Winter Antique Show have been poor?  Well, we have been doing well but we are a very small company.
