As what you do is a major "safety valve" for NYC, it seems to me that his gift COULD be construed as an acknowledgment of the incredible job you are doing.
Injecting humanity into the millions of people that you affect directly and indirectly contributes hugely to the quality of life in this city.
It seems to me that a letter signed by 100 or more Physicians giving thanks for his acknowledgement would be a powerful fundraising tool. I also feel that this letter could also be used as a general tool as well.
It also seems to me that this is the KEY to the message that you should be giving to your potential donors.
There is no question that the standard of living is going to go down in the US as China, India and Africa take more of their fair share of the resources that are available. That is going to be the key source of tension in the United States for the rest of my life as people get angry on having to do with less.
What you do is illuminate that the basic core human values of respect for motherhood and family is vastly more important than another shopping basket full of junk from Walmart.
The Major cares about this more than anyone else on this planet. Letting him know that you are a very committed, enthusiastic and important part of his vision would be wise.
