A fine link to excellent 21st Century map makers
They Draw & Travel is
an online collection of maps illustrated by artists from around the
world. Created by the brother and sister design and illustration team
of Nate Padavick and Salli Swindell, They Draw & Travel is
doing a great job at keeping the art of map-making alive, relevant and
inspiring. Each map on this site is a one-of-a-kind artistic creation.
These hand-made maps often highlight off-the-beaten path sites and
activities that are personal favorites of the artists. You won't find
anything like this in a guidebook! The artists whose work you see in
this website are a varied and talented bunch. Some of them are
professional illustrators, students and practicing artists, while others
are passionate doodlers and drawers. Anyone can submit a map and so far
over 600 people have contributed illustrated maps of their favorite
places - from Antarctica to Alaska and everywhere in between. They even
have an interactive World Map (http://www.theydrawandtravel. com/map) to help you find all the places in the world that are represented.
