An E-mail from Tim Gardam, Principal at St Anne's College.
Dear Graham, (if I may),
We were tremendously privileged to be able to host our
St Anne’s New York reunion at the Arader Galleries, which is without doubt the
most beautiful private house I have seen in New York. It allowed me to place
scenes from Henry James’s novels there in my imagination. It was a very
successful event and our alumnae were quite amazed at what a location St Anne’s
had found for them. It was a wonderful idea of Kate to propose it and
extraordinarily good of you to offer it.
Thank you too for such a spontaneous and generous
donation to St Anne’s. American philanthropy puts Europe to shame but it was
very kind indeed of you to do so. I would very much like to repay your
hospitality. I do not know how often you are in the UK but, if ever you were,
it would be the greatest pleasure to invite you as our guest to Oxford and to
show you St Anne’s. Our buildings are scarcely a Renaissance monument to
Oxford’s centuries of learning but we add something to the University of
our own and we would love to have you here and to introduce you to some
interesting people. Do let me know if and when such a moment is in prospect.
With all thanks and best wishes,
Tim
