Auction Results & Prices Realized, April 18th, 2015, Art in the Age of European & American Exploration
Arader Galleries's is delighted to announce another success in their April auction. The sale, which took place on Saturday, April 18th, featured 248 lots with works by John James Audubon, a large selection of historic maps and views, rare atlases, natural history watercolors, a selection of oil paintings, and other works on paper. The auction totaled over $2.39 million in sales.
This auction featured iconic plates from John James Audubon's Birds of America. The highest seller was the Snowy Owl (Lot 14) which achieved $198,250. Other high sellers among these popular lots were the Scarlet Ibis (Lot 10) and the Brazilian Caracara Eagle (Lot 17), which sold for $30,500, and $10,980 respectively.
The selection of historic maps and rare atlases saw great interest and many bids. Jean-Dominique Cassini's first edition Map of Paris (Lot 111) achieved $15,860. The Claudius Ptolemaeus 'Liber Geographiae...' (Lot 167) achieved $97,600. The first Dutch Text Edition of William Blaeu's 'Tooneel der Staden van de Vereenighde...' sold for $91,500.
Some of the highlights in other sections of the sale included a beautiful Redoute watercolor of Angel's Tears (Lot 210), which sold for $23,180, and a fine Jacques Barraband watercolor 'La Perruche' (Lot 220), which achieved a price of $47,580.
