Asia Week Auction Success and Prices Realized
Arader Galleries is delighted to announce that our March sale, the first to coincide with Asia Week NYC, was a huge success. The highly attended sale included 103 lots featuring a wonderful array of maps, views, natural history engravings, watercolors and rare books pertaining to the Asian continent achieved a total of $1,358,721.
Highlights of the sale include Willem Blaeu's Asia Noviter Delineata (Lot 2) which achieved $4,575 after a round of excited bidding. There was considerable excitement in the room over two maps of Korea as two phone bidders battled over Lots 40 and 41, Jean Baptiste Bourguignon D'Anville's Royaume de Coree and a beautiful hand-painted Map of Korea. They achieved their high estimates and sold for $4,575 and $3,660 respectably. A stunning oil painting of a Bengal tiger (Lot 69) was sold for $15,860, while the standout success of the natural history section was the Himalayan Monal (Impeyen Pheasant) watercolor from the Calcutta School which achieved $36,600. Finally Willem Bleau's definitive atlas of Asia surpassed it's high estimate to achieve $30,500.
Our next auction will be held on Saturday April 2nd at 1:00pm with a sale featuring a selection of John James Audubon prints, fine maps, rare atlases and other natural history. Some of the top Audubon Birds for sale include the Carolina Parrot, the Fish Hawk, the Roseate Spoonbill, the Hooping Crane, the Mockingbird and the Great White Heron.
