Arader Galleries November 5th Fall Auction Success and Prices Realized Report
The sale kicked off with selections from Audubon's Birds of America. The Common American Swan (Lot 13) achieved an impressive $85,400 and the iconic Roseate Spoonbill (Lot 16) sold for $176,900 following a back and forth from bidders online and on the phone. The Hooping Crane also sold for $61,000. The highlights of the Quadrupeds was the Raccoon which sold for a total of $11,590 to an American institution.
Other highlights from the sale included the Senex Map of America (Lot 125), which exceeded its high estimate selling for $3,050. Mather's Landmark Map of Long Island (Lot 131) sold for $3,660. There was an excited round of bidding on all of the celestial works by Johann Bayer and Andreas Cellarius (Lots 160-171) which saw all of these lots sell for a combined total of $19,276. A First Edition of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo also sold for $3,660.
Our next auction will be on January 28, 2017. This sale will feature offerings from Audubon's Birds of America and Viviparous Quadrupeds of America as well as a selection of pivotal maps and views. This sale will coincide with the Winter Antiques Show at the Park Avenue Armory (January 20-29) where Arader Galleries will have a selection of works on view.
