April 6th Auction Success and Prices Realized

This Saturday marked another successful auction at Arader Galleries!  We are delighted to announce our well attended sale totaled $1,594,033. The 199 lot sale featured a selection of outstanding material including excellent examples of John James Audubon's Birds of America and Quadrupeds of North America, as well as rare maps, books, globes and natural history watercolors.

Highlights were the beautiful Audubon Great Cinereous Owl (Lot 11, $49,400), Passenger Pigeon (Lot 14, $32,250), Ivory-Billed Woodpecker (Lot 15, $133,750), Summer or Wood Duck (Lot 16, $100,000) and the iconic Snowy Owl (Lot 16, $227,500). A number of natural history watercolors sold including works by Edward Travies and Edwin D. Smith for well over their high estimates.

The map section featured frequent bidding with some iconic works selling such as Ortelius' maps of the Pacific and Americas; a wonderful two part map of North America by Coronelli; a lovely map of the Chesapeake after Jaillot and a handsome Civil War map of the West by Colton. Our next Auction will be June 8th, The auction will feature an outstanding collection of Audubon Birds, as well as rare books, watercolors, maps and globes. The evening before will feature a wonderful talk on the mergers of Art and Science by renowned scholar Barney Lipscomb.
