This house was George Washington's Headquarters on his way to Valley Forge from December 13 to 19, 1777. I bought the house in 1977, two hundred years later!
You are all welcome to visit now that it is being completely restored.
It also was where my first 4 children were born. It has a garden laid out by John Bartram in the mid 18th century and the oldest Metasequoia or Dawn Redwood in the United States planted there by one of the men who supported the Arnold Arboretum's expedition to China in 1948 that brought seedlings to the United States. It is the first of its kind to grow in the Western Hemisphere in over two million years!!!! The forester, Zhan Wang, took samples from a mysterious stand of trees deep in a valley in the Hubei Province of Central China and showed the world that this masterpiece tree was not extinct. The "living fossil" on this property was planted by Robert Dechert (founder of the law firm of Dechert, Price and Rhodes) who was a supporter of the exhibition.
Now it is used to make our clients museum quality frames and is my home there one or two days a week. There is a fine collection of early maps of the region on display.
You are welcome to visit anytime.
Happy New Year
