The finest man I ever met - Dr. Seymour Schwartz

The greatest collector of American maps of all time was Dr. Seymour Schwartz. He was my mentor for 40 years and absolutely the finest man ever for me He was also the greatest surgeon who wrote the handbook of surgery and 50 other amazing books on my different subjects These absolutely were his two favorite maps. They both are illustrated in his book about maps which is the best ever. I will give you one when I see you next. He was offered the top job at Penn and spoke with my father about this because dad was running the hospital then He turned us down and stayed at the Univ of Rochester Lucky for me to have been guided by him. He did everything right on everything. A true giant and the only man that absolutely had NO reason whatsoever to be modest About 40 years ago he called me up and said he wanted to be made a member of the American Philosophical Society. Normally it takes 3 years to go through the process. I called up the director at the time, Whitfield Bell, and told him what Sy wanted and he made him a member on the spot!!! A great, great man Graham
